Heroic tales from American GIs
This week, Martha Kearney, presenter of BBC Radio 4’s The World at One, came by the Whistledown studios to record interviews and links for the forthcoming BBC Radio 4 series GI Britain.
Martha was in the studio to record new interviews with surviving GI’s and the people who were affected by their presence in Britain. We heard powerful stories of love, friendship, and bravery. This was an amazing opportunity to capture first-person memories of an extraordinary period in British History.
This two-part series, starting on Saturday 3rd November, explores the story of the wartime GI years and their social and cultural impact. The programmes will also feature interviews with GI brides and over 150 archive interviews from both the Imperial War Museum and the National Library of Congress.
